While some on the right do go after Fauci, I see no evidence that Trump encourages that, nor do I see him ignoring the science. The White House guidelines are clearly informed by science, and are not something Trump would want at all, if he didn’t believe the scientists.

Trump says some unscientific things at times — hardly surprising, since he is not a scientist, plus he often speaks from stream of consciousness. But to imply that he is out to get Fauci is as far removed from reality as the attacks on Fauci.

A good saying about Trump that too many people fail to understand: “Take him seriously, but not literally.”
