This is the worst, most illogical, and most insulting Medium article I have ever encountered. It grossly exaggerates and mischaracterizes pretty much anyone whom the writer imagines exists (there are few people that fit the targets of this rant).
For example: " Even a deluded, deranged, heathen, satanic boogeyman-failure-victim like me can get this, so surely good Christian folks like you can too."
That is a highly exaggerated, vicious slander on Christians. And the whole article is highly exaggerated, often mischaracterizing to the point of slander whoever the author imagines is wrong.
So let's get real: mental illness is a real problem - in all societies. Mentally ill people deserve compassion, and treatment where that is possible.
Is transgender a mental illness? That depends on the specific case. Humans have vast variation, so drawing absolute lines is a mistake. Psychiatry recognizes this - diagnoses are not precise definitions of what is happening with a person. There is a high rate of distress causing mental illness among those identifying as transgender, but not among all.
I hope the author gets help for their anger issues. And with that, maybe some more rationality and recognition of reality might set in - the people concerned about certain transgender issues are not as the author believes (for the most part - again, absolutes about humans are tough).
Let me be clear: many of us are concerned that the sexualization of childhood, lately in the name of "transgender acceptance," is inappropriate and damaging. Beyond that, the activism targeting children (without the consent of their parents) is, in fact, dangerous and wrong.
And being conserned about that is very different from "othering" someone who is transgender. I'm concerned, but I'm not going to attack a person for identifying as transgender - that's just not civilized.
We need to all try to live together, despite our differences, despite our disagreements.
