The idea that money put into "fossil" fuel production is wasted, but money put into alternative energy is not is incorrect. Any investment will require future investment to keep it running, to repair it, to replace it.

Alternative energy, in the form of wind and solar, is not going to solve the problems - because of the extremely high cost of storage. And, there is no technology out there that will reduce that cost much.

As for energy efficiency, we are killing thousands of Americans per year in cars that are too light, due to the long term quest for energy efficiency. But in structures, energy efficiency makes sense.

But Democrats love to use mandates - dictatorial control - to achieve things. Republicans know that markets will do it, and do it better. As the cost of energy rises, things will get more efficient.
