The actual usurpations due to emergency were not Trump - all those fantasies about dictatorship remained, fortunately, just fantasies. Trump has some bad attitudes, but he never attempted a coup, could never have succeeded in one if he tried, and peacefully turned over power on Jan 20, 2021.

As for the stolen election fantasies, while he is the loudest, let us remember: many Democrats never accepted George W. Bush as the lawful president; Hillary claimed the 2016 election was stolen; Democrat Stacey Abrams continues to assert elections were stolen from her; and of course, many Democrats, not just Hillary, did not accept Trump as the lawful President, and worked for four years by means both fair and foul, to obstruct him and defeat him.

But governors, under the name of COVID, sometimes went way beyond their constitutional powers, and way beyond what is needed.

For example, requiring masks outdoors is stupid outside of crowds and ignores the science.

And look at how anti-gun folks are eagerly awaiting the next mass shooting, so they can crack down on legal gun owners.

Or look at how Biden both tells us COVID is over, and yet has spent trillions of "COVID relief" that was unneeded in the form it was spent.

Yes, emergencies are used by dictators. Your Trump example, however, fails.
