Pro-abortion writers often use the idea that “Republicans are out to ban all abortions” as a distraction from the fact that the majority of Americans want abortions outlawed after the first trimester, with the exception of serious health issue for the mother, or rape and other exceptional circumstances. And yes, we do want to end those abortions.
Also ignored by the “pro choice” crowd is the valid argument that three people have rights in the unborn child: the mother, the father, and the child. Abortion law is about balancing those rights, which today are completely unbalanced in favor of the woman. The right to life is fundamental, and the real issue is at what point that right overrides the mother’s right to end a pregnancy.
Additionally, the pro choice crowd would have you believe that the ideas in society about murder should not apply, at all or in any way, to an unborn child. They present the unscientific fiction that the child is not a person, but a “fetus” right up until the moment it is born. This goes against science, not to mention the common sense experience of the many who were born prematurely.
As to what republicans are out to do — well, that depends on the Republican — we are not a monolithic block. I’d like to see all abortion except for medical purposes ended, but not made illegal until after the first trimester. Most Republicans would go along with that, as would the majority of the country, according to reliable and frequent polls from the past right through to now.
