Bliss was used by DEC as one of the first systems implementation language. It's pretty much in the "C" category.
I played with it a bit, and wrote a paper on it for a UCLA class. It was pretty clean, but I don't remember much beyond that.

That pdf is very interesting. It's like evolution, BLISS was a viable lifeform but it just got swamped by C.
